There are many Leadership factors involved in building an mlm downline, but none are more frustrating than the roles a Network Marketing Leader can play when recruiting and engaging a new person in this business.

We have a tendency to go from one extreme to the other. Ignoring the new person to practically living with them, and everything in between.

There are 4 basic “leading” roles that you establish with your new person. As a Network Marketing Leader, you may move through all of these roles with each person you bring into your MLM organization.

1) The Recruiter.

2) The Sponsor.

3) The Baby Sitter.

4) The Mentor.

1) The MLM Recruiter

So what exactly IS the difference between a recruiter and a sponsor?

INFERNO Secret:

I have always taught that recruiting is getting them in, and sponsoring is keeping them in. One is a defined process for getting them signed up the other is growing their greatness in this business.

I never really got into a hairsplitting term. Call recruiting what you want, but understand:

INFERNO Secret:

Network Marketing Recruiting is the Education and Influence Process of getting to the point of when you become their sponsor, and a lot people who recruit folks in this business forget the sponsor part.

MLM Recruiting can be simply running the numbers, but that is how the average distributor does it. A Leader recruits to become a great sponsor and to build a long term relationship. Recruiting is the first phase of the MLM Leader Role, and Sponsoring is the second.

2) The MLM Sponsor, is the second.

When you have recruited them into your business, now you are their sponsor.

INFERNO Secret:

There is a reason why the word sponsor and responsibility have the same root word. It is your responsibility to become the Leader they need to create an environment for greatness, and for creating independence in your people.

That is Priority One!

You must get them trained. A recruiter rarely takes the time for that because recruiters are focused on recruiting, not growing, signing them up, not growing them up. A Leader always grows people first, then the business.

INFERNO Secret:

Growing people produces the biggest MLM Success harvest in this MLM business!

Be a great sponsor and take your new distributors where they want to go, but remember to also take them to the level of success you want them to lead them to.

3) The MLM Babysitter

Ahhh! This is the sponsor who does everything for their downline, and completely disables their distributors and cripples their growth.

You want to do it all. You don’t think anyone can do it as good as you, and so, you do it all. And what happens?

INFERNO Secret:

Babysitting creates a downline of babies. They never grow into their greatness in this business. They crawl through this business, and eventually out of it.

You as a Leader must become a great sponsor, but understand there is a HUGE difference between Sponsoring someone, and Spoon Feeding them.

IFERNO Secret:

Create a GROWTH environment — not a Kindergarten.

As you mature your people in this business, so matures your mlm business ultimately.

4) The MLM Mentor

This is the Pinnacle of the Role you play in the development of your Leaders, but here is a tip:

INFERNO Secret:

Mentor those who DESERVE it — not those who DESIRE it.

Your ultimate goal as a sponsor is to create a non-stop network marketing success machine. The only way you can do that is to choose 4-5 people in your group to mentor for greatness.

Choose people who have really stepped up to the bat and proven they are SERIOUS about their building this mlm business. Make sure they have shown you that they are worthy of you taking them under your wing and paying very special attention to them in Network Marketing.

Take them under your wing for a year and solidify and grow them into their greatness. Not by totally building it for them, as there are some things they must learn from experience, but totally supporting them in all phases of their business and growth through training, building, supporting, and BEING THERE for them. And creating an extraordinary relationship that will last a lifetime.

INFERNO Secret:

Mentoring in MLM is not for the weak-hearted.

In Network Marketing,it takes effort, discipline, a lot of caring, and also a ton of giving on your part.

You will have trying times, just like in any relationship. But you must understand that if you mentor a select few folks, they can create an enormous network marketing business with you, and will be maximized in this mlm industry. And will stay with you during the tough times. (and there will be some.)

The Recruiter grows In-discouragement.

The Sponsor grows Independence.

The Baby Sitter grows Dependence.

The Mentor grows Interdependence.

INFERNO Secret:

The Power of MLM lies in Interdependence.

And, it is true.

ALL great Leaders in this industry have mentored a select few special people in their downline to extreme success, in MLM and Network Marketing.

MLM Presence.

Does yours work FOR you, or AGAINST you?

Good question! Many times, in a Recruiting session, your presence totally will set the environment for how the recruiting conversation or appointment goes. Your MLM Recruiting Presence says more to the prospect many times than the words you choose to vocalize. It is the one single influencing factor that many times will determine if your prospect will join you or not. It is that powerful of a factor in Network Marketing recruiting.

I am so honored and blessed to work with a lot of folks around the world, and one of the biggest problems I see with the struggling Network Marketer, is the lack of “Success Presence” in their demeanor. They come across like they are anything but Successful, let alone on their way to Success. You MUST have a Magnetic Presence to recruit effectively.

What exactly is Presence?

It is the “Aura” or “Feeling” that people feel from you and get when they are around you.

It is the “Instinctive Feeling” that is triggered in people when they see you.

It is the “Knowing” that people can have about you, and who they perceive you to be.

Have you ever been around someone that you didn’t know why, but you simply didn’t feel comfortable being around them, something just wasn’t “right?” Something about them made red flags go off in your instincts.

That was their presence that you were feeling.

Have you ever met someone and immediately felt comfortable with them? It was just something about them, and how they looked at you and how they made you feel so good?

That was their presence you were feeling.

One of the Biggest Secrets to MLM Recruiting is creating a “Magnetic Presence” so people are literally attracted to talking to you and want to be around you.

Let’s take a test about your presence and see how you come out:

Here are 10 Insightful questions:

1) Does your Presence have a “warmth” about it that people enjoy being around?

2) Does your Presence say “I am interested in YOU”, or “I am interested in ME?”

3) Do you look people in the eye 90% of the time and stretch you hand out first to shake hands?

4) Is your body language open, and receptive to creating and catalyzing new friendships, or is it closed and expecting people to come to you ?

5) Do your conversations focus on the PROSPECT and what they are interested in, or focus on YOU and what YOU are interested in?

6) Do you have a Confidence about you and your business, and do they hear a sincere BELIEF in your words , or a lack of it when you talk to folks?

7) Do you VALIDATE the prospect, and make them feel good about who they are, or constantly Validate YOU and make you feel good about who you are?

Do you smile easily, and make others smile, or smile rarely, and make others uneasy?

9) Do you have a focus of “helping others” or “hyping others”?

10) Do you come across as a LEADER, or a “Feeder” who feeds their own self interests first?

These are some tough MLM questions!

You must understand that your Presence is what we call: “Your Silent Calling Card”. It is the first thing someone sees and feels about you, and will determine a lot of their first (and probably last) impression. It will determine a lot about the Success in Network Marketing Recruiting.

Well? What did you find out about your presence?

Let me suggest you look at the 10 questions and go to work on your MLM Recruiting Presence.

If you do, Your MLM Recruiting will improve dramatically, almost overnight.

Try it, you’ll see what I mean.

Working from home was once seen as the role of amateurs, part-timers and those seeking an alternative lifestyle. With running a business from home you were always facing a credibility problem, especially with clients or potential clients from the big end of town.

But with changes in technology and a little smart planning, an increasing number of business people are enjoying the benefits of telecommuting and working from home.

There are some great benefits. You tend to be much more efficient, spending far less time in non-productive situations caused by travel and traffic.

There’s also the opportunity of having more time with the family and in your own comfortable environment. It’s also more flexible.

Then there’s the dress code. You can wear what you want.

But there are down sides. The lack of social interaction with others. The isolation and discipline of working on your own. And all those other temptations to take you away from revenue generating, meaningful work.

What about if clients drop in to see you and you’re still in your pajamas at 3 p.m., your work area is a mess and the kids are running amok.

The major problem though, is clearly separating work from downtime and home life. With your business literally only steps away from home, everyone faces the temptation of overworking and never leaving the office.

So if you’re thinking of setting up your home office, here are 10 tips to make it work.

Physically separate your work area or office from the rest of the house. Avoid setting up in leisure rooms such as your bedroom, lounge room or kitchen. Many find a separate entrance helps.

Have discipline and treat going to your office as if you’re going to work. Make the mental switch that you’re working. Dress as though you are working.

Don’t overwork. Try not to spend all your time in the office. Try to stick to set office hours and aim to achieve your work in a reasonable amount of time rather than dragging it out over a long period.

Have a comfortable work environment. Set yourself up with a good desk and most importantly chair. Don’t skimp on poor and cheap furniture. It will cost you in the longer term as you become frustrated with the level of comfort. Buy the best your budget will allow. Allow for good lighting.

Have a separate work phone line and fax line. There’s nothing more frustrating for clients when they’re faxing through important details to find the line engaged. Mobile phones are highly recommended.

Set yourself up with email. This is an essential tool of the trade and great for communicating. Set up a separate line, but if you must compromise share the email line with your fax.

Buy a decent computer, fax and printer. Again, essential tools for the home office.

Avoid meeting important and unfamiliar clients at your home office. Meet on neutral ground such as a coffee shop or a professional location. Business clubs often provide meeting rooms for members free of charge.

Get out of the office regularly. Network at least twice a week with potential or current clients.

Plan enough storage for your business. It’s uncanny how much paper you accumulate in the so-called “paperless” office. Always keep good financial records and put in place a simple and efficient filing system.

I started looking for viable work at home opportunities back in 2001. It was a time consuming process, but in retrospect, I give myself a pat on the back every month when I cash the check from my home based business. The purpose of this article is to perhaps help others make their selection with a little less time and effort than I had to expend.

Having spent many years running traditional “bricks and mortar” type businesses, I didn’t buy for one second the numerous heavily hyped, or worse yet, scam operations that touted the instant and fantastic riches that could be achieved (often with little or no effort required). While doing my research as to which business I would eventually pursue, this type of claim became an instant trigger for me to move on to check out some other “opportunity”.

I mean, give me a break, if those claims were close to being true, why would they share their “secret” with anyone else? They would just execute their “magic system” and in short order would have made all the money that exists in the world…yeah, right!

In the course of my investigations, a few other natural filters surfaced to help me narrow down the realistic and legitimate opportunities from among the far too numerous unfounded offers. Early on, I determined that the “get in on the ground floor” offers were essentially smoke. After all, if I wanted to take a chance on the lottery, I would have purchased a ticket. Because of my business management experience, it soon became clear to me that three of the primary factors that would influence my choice would be:

* successful longevity (how long has this particular company been successfully doing business?)

* reasonable income expectations touted by the top management of the company offering the opportunity.

* support systems and training resources available to help the participants succeed.

One thing that really struck home with me was a statement made by the founder of the company that I eventually selected for my home based business. It went something like the following:

“Hardly a day goes by that I don’t hear from an affiliate questioning why he or she is not seeing a big check yet. More times than not, the person asking hasn’t even been involved for more than 90 days and is only barely beginning to even understand how the whole system works. And frankly, even if the number was six months, it’s still much too early to be expecting a significant income stream to have developed.

I always say that if you’re not willing to give a business at least a year, don’t even bother getting involved. You need to understand that it takes time to get to know all the nuances of the compensation plan. It takes time to determine which products you want to lead with. It takes time to develop a game plan. It takes time to figure out what marketing activities deliver the biggest bang for the buck. Anything worthwhile takes sustained effort. If you’re not thinking long term, you’ve set yourself up for failure.”

To sum it up, the selection process should focus on reality (there is no “magic” in home based businesses) and reject any so-called “opportunities” that seem too good to be true.

There are numerous reasons why people choose to start a
home-based business. Some of those reasons include:

1. Dissatisfied with their present employment situation.

2. Out of work due to being laid off or downsizing by their employer.

3. A need to be home more with young children, an infirm family member, or aging parents.

4. A yearning to be their own boss.

Whatever your particular reason for exploring a home-based
business, there are a few common steps you need to take in order
to launch your business.

First off, you need to come to grips with reality…be realistic
in your expectations. Far too many folks read advertisements
that are hype and imply quick money, and lots of it, from a
home-based business start-up. It will certainly take a year, and
in some cases it may take up to three years, before you begin to
truly make a significant profit from your business.

I have helped a large number of people start up their own
home-based businesses using the Internet. Over time, I have come
to recognize two of the most important factors for identifying
people that should NOT start a home based business. If a
prospective entrepreneur says something like…

“I’m broke and need to make some money, fast!”

or,

“I want to start a home-based business, but I don’t want to spend
anything on it until after I start earning some money.”

…it is certain that they have not addressed reality and, with
that mindset, they will most certainly fail.

It takes a lot of time to successfully market and promote a new
business. If you are planning a home-based business in order to
spend a lot of time with young children or care for the elderly, a
full-time business (and income) may not be a realistic objective.

Second, spend some time researching your business idea. Make sure
there is truly enough of a market for your product or service.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of having a hobby or passion for
something that you like to do and just assuming that you can turn
it into an economically viable business.

Third, learn as much as you can about small business. There is a
wealth of information available on this topic and the US Small
Business Administration is probably as good a place to start as
any. Just go to http://www.sba.gov/ and navigate to the sections
dealing with home based businesses.

Fourth, write a business plan. It is your roadmap to reaching
your objectives. There are numerous articles on the Internet
and in libraries that can assist you in developing your business
plan as well as addressing the many other issues involved with
starting and operating a business from home. As a starting
point, here are a couple of Small Business Administration
website locations that should prove useful:

http://www.sba.gov/starting/indexbusplans.html

http://www.sba.gov/library/pubs.html

And last, but not least, seek the advice of a tax professional.
Your first reaction may be that you can’t afford such expenses
right now; but, in reality, you can’t afford not to seek such
advice from the very beginning of your home business start-up.
They can advise you about ways you may be able to reduce the
amount of taxable business income at the end of the year.
Paying for an hour or two of consultation with a tax professional
at the beginning will probably save you much more than that
amount later on down the road.

I never cease to be amazed at the number of people that seem to
think that some magic is somehow created when you put the words
“home based” in front of the word “business”. It’s still
business…it just happens to be based in the home.

The reasons people express for wanting to work from home are
many and varied, but most home based business owners cite the
ability to set their own hours as a major factor in their
decision to work at home. However, many people that have work at
home businesses often fall into a trap that flies directly in the
face of their stated desire for time flexibility.

The strong growth in home based business activity continues and,
according to the Small Business Administration’s Office of
Advocacy, fifty-two percent of ALL small businesses are
home-based.

Some home based business owners have been known to become
“workaholics” because their office is so accessible. Don’t
become a slave to your business…get out of your home office
regularly to renew and revitalize yourself.

Close the door to your office or otherwise remove yourself from
your designated “work area” and go into your “home” area to live
your personal life. If your business involves the use of the
telephone and you find it difficult to ignore a ringing
phone in the office, simply turn the ringer off and turn the
volume on the answering machine way down. If your business is
internet based, just turn off your computer (or at least get away
from the monitor and keyboard).

As a work at home business entrepreneur, you certainly aren’t
required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week just
because your business is located in your home. After all,
your office or workspace is just an area in your home…its not
your home itself!

Working and living under the same roof has a host of advantages,
but it can present some challenges (in addition to the workaholic
syndrome mentioned, above) and stress factors.

Here are four ways to create a less stressful home business
environment:

-Remember why you wanted to become involved with a home-based
business (i.e. more time for family, work schedule flexibility,

etc.)

-Have discussions with your family members and get their input
about the working arrangements and the amount of time they want
with you.

-Use good time management techniques. Keep a list of tasks by
order of importance. There are many low cost and effective “day
planners” or “organizers” readily available today.

-ALWAYS take a little time to “smell the roses”.

While not experiencing the negatives common to a corporate office
working environment, the home-based business owner may
occasionally experience stresses and frustrations that are unique
to working at home.

Networking with other home-based and small business owners
provides an opportunity to connect with others who may be
experiencing the same stresses/frustrations that you are. Sharing
stressful and/or frustrating issues with someone else in the same
situation can relieve your stress and may bring you good advice
from a different point of view.

As a final note, remember to observe Home-Based Business Week
each year (it is always the week of October that includes the
second Tuesday).

coaches others seeking to start their own home based business.

Marketing your home based business is vital to its success. So one of the first things you should do when starting your home based business is to develop a marketing plan.

For your home based business marketing plan, you need to know what your business is really about and what separates you from the other guys in the same type of business. When you have an idea about this, you want to develop an unique selling proposition statement (USP). This is different from an advertising tagline, although you may end up using it as one. A USP, however, is usually a one-sentence statement that sums up who you are and what the purpose and mission of your home based business are.

After you develop your home based business USP, you want to think seriously about your target market. Who are they? Where do they live? How much education do they have? What are their buying habits? What’s their gender? Asking questions like these help you know your customers inside and out, which will be of tremendous benefit in allowing you to talk to them in their own language and in understanding the best way to get the message about your home based business across to them.

Once you know these things, it’s time to think about advertising. You will, of course, want to have business cards, letterhead and envelopes for your home based business. You may want to hire a graphic designer to develop a special logo just for your home based business and have it printed on all your business and marketing materials, from envelopes to television commercials, if you decide to run some to advertise your home based business. A logo is an excellent way to brand your business so that the minute people see it, they automatically think of you. If you don’t think this is true, consider Nike. Without the swoosh, Nike just wouldn’t be Nike.

You will definitely want to have a website for your home based business, whether you’re doing business online or off. Even if you’re not marketing your product or service to the online community, a website gives your home based business more substance and credibility. Web developers and writers can have your website up and running in a day, but it’s better to take some time and plan the look and feel you want your website to have before going live with it.

Some other ways to market your home based business offline that are quite inexpensive are flyers, circulars and posters. You can make these types of marketing materials on your own computer, then post them around town and leave them in places where there are likely to be people who want your product and/or service. Marketing materials like these are much more effective than you might think and are a great way to reach an untapped market for your home based business. However, if you’re leaving flyers in a business or office be sure to get permission first. You don’t want them to just get chunked in the trash!

Other home based business marketing materials that tend to be a bit more costly are brochures, radio commercials, billboards and television commercials. But they might not be as expensive as you think, especially if you’re focused on a particular small area. For brochures and billboards, you will want to hire a good graphic artist to create them, and you’ll also need to buy media placement for the billboards. For commercials for your home based business, both radio and television, you’ll need a copywriter to write a script unless you plan on writing it yourself. You’ll also need a producer to record or shoot your commercial. You’ll also have to buy the media placement for it. Many small local advertising agencies in your area can do all of this for you at a moderate charge. Some agencies that are just starting out themselves may be willing to give you a discount to help advertise their own service. Just make sure their agency has a reputation for qualitylike the one you’re developing for your own home based business!

When you say network marketing immediately the main stream
public thinks negative things, but truly network marketing is a
neutral entity. It’s not good or bad it’s just a business model.

What gives network marketing its bad name to many is both
simple and ironic. You see, network marketing is a form of
business that anybody with dreams of grandeur can try their
hand at.

Why?

It only cost $50 a few $1000 to get started.

Most people that start a network marketing business have no
experience in business. Their eyes get bigger than their
wallet and they go over board on the product and advertising
side of things before they learn the fundamentals of the
business.

This is a recipe for disaster every time.

Everyone knows someone that has lost there shirt trying to
take a shot at network marketing riches. When your loved ones
hear the words “mlm or network marketing” they want to shield
you from that same fate. Hence, network marketing gets a bad name.

What I want you to ask yourself is the following . . .

Is it really network marketing that’s bad or is it human
nature that’s at fault?

One of the advantages of conducting your own small business is you can significantly reduce your costs by controlling a few simple processes. Here are ten useful ways to reduce your business costs.

1. Network With Non Competing Businesses
This can present a fantastic opportunity for many businesses. Try networking your business with other business owners. Of course, you would not approach someone with business that is in direct competition with yours! There may be several non-competing businesses that appeal to a similar market as your business. For example weight loss, lingerie and child care businesses all appeal to women and do not compete with one another. You may be able to trade leads and mailing lists.

Make a list of all the possible business alliances in your area, work out a win-win arrangement where both businesses benefit, and systematically work through your list. This will cut down on your marketing and advertising costs.

2. Wholesale/Bulk
You’ll save money buying your business supplies in bulk quantities. You could get a membership at a wholesale warehouse or buy them through a mail
order or internet wholesaler. Buy the supplies you are always running out of.

3. Free Stuff
You should try visiting the thousands of freebie sites on the internet before buying your business supplies. You can find free software, graphics, backgrounds,
online business services and business cards to mention a few items. There are many online sites providing freebies, and to get you started visit www.freeonline.com.au and www.ifree.com.au

4. Borrow/Rent
Have you ever purchased business equipment you only needed for a small period of time? You could have just borrowed the equipment from someone else or rented the equipment from a business equipment supplier. A quick search through the Yellow Pages or on the internet will give you a number of places that rent office equipment.

5. Online/Offline Auctions
You can find lower prices on business supplies and equipment at online and offline auctions. I’m not saying all the time, but before you go pay retail for
these items try bidding on them first. If you are not able to visit a local auction, you may find online auctions such as www.ebay.com useful.

6. Plan Ahead
Make a list of business supplies or equipment you’ll need in the future. Keep an eye out for stores that have big stock clearing sales. Purchase the supplies when they go on sale before you need them.

7. Used Stuff
If your business equipment and supplies don’t need to be new, buy them used. You can find used items at garage sales. Keep an eye out in the papers for liquidation sales.

8. Negotiate
You should always try negotiate a lower price for any business equipment or supplies, especially if you are paying cash. It costs the retailer to operate a merchant account for credit cards and often they willing reduce the price for a cash sale. It doesn’t hurt to try. Pretend you are talking to a salesman at a car
lot.

9. Search
You can always be searching for new suppliers for your business supplies and equipment. Look for suppliers with lower prices and better quality. Don’t
just be satisfied with a few.

10. Office Upgrades
Many commercial businesses upgrade their information technology requirements every few years. When this happens offer to purchase the old equipment, which may be going to be scrapped in any case. It is likely your IT requirements are not as stringent and the ‘old’ system will still adequately run the software you need for your business. Keep an eye out for new office fit outs. When a tenant leaves a commercial building they may be required to removed their office fit out. Desks, chairs, partitions are just some of the useful home office items you may pick up for a penny!

Over the last few years I have helped thousands of people start their own home based businesses. Many of these folks have become quite successful and others, for various reasons, have failed to achieve success.

People starting out in their first home based business adventure almost always suffer information overload in the early stages of trying to get their business up and running. I often refer to this as the “taking a drink from a fire hose syndrome”.

For the first time home business entrepreneur there will be a great deal of “newness” to virtually all aspects of getting their business started. When you combine all of this “newness” along with the natural sense of excitement and eagerness, it is easy to understand how people can easily fall prey to the feeling of being overwhelmed and lost.

To a degree, the confusion/frustration/overload situation frequently encountered in the initial startup phase is often similar to the old saying about trying to run before learning to walk.

The steepness (is that a word?) of the learning curve depends not only upon the particular type of business that is being undertaken, but also upon the background and skills of the person starting the business. In any event, when first starting out, people will usually try to move forward too quickly.

I caution people to come to grips with reality and to be realistic in their expectations. Far too many folks read advertisements that are hype and imply quick money, and lots of it, from a home-based business start-up. It will certainly take at least a year, and in some cases two to three years, before you should expect to begin to truly make a significant profit from your business.

It takes a lot of time to successfully market and promote a new business. Starting out a new business with the expectation of earning a full time income from a part time effort is not very realistic and is likely to lead to disappointment.

If you are planning on starting a home-based business with the intention of spending a great deal of time with young children or caring for a sick or elderly family member, a full-time home business (and income) may not be a realistic objective from a time availability standpoint. Try to reconcile your income expectations with the amount of time that you have available to devote to starting your home business.

You can expect to experience periods of doubt in the early stages of developing your business…did I pick a viable business opportunity?…am I doing the right things to develop my business?…when will I start making a profit?, and so on.

A person working at a home based business may also experience occasional periods of feeling isolated…a feeling which is probably brought on by the lack of interaction of a work force or office environment.

Whatever type of home based business that you choose to start, you can rest assured that there will be some bumps in the road leading to your success. You should expect to experience the “two steps forward and one step backward” thing and try to avoid the ever-looming temptation to become overly discouraged when you take one of those backward steps. It is very easy to lose sight of the obvious fact that as long as you have more steps forward than backward you will eventually get ahead!
